About this product

Watermelon “Złoto Wolicy” F1 (Citrullus lanatus) is an early hybrid whose rind turns yellow when ripe. The red flesh is juicy and very sweet, and the fruits reach up to 6 kg. It is resistant to powdery and downy mildew.

Sow indoors in March or April and plant out at the end of May or early June. It can be grown in the open or under cover, although in an Estonian summer a greenhouse is the safer choice. Fruit ripens in August and September.

The pack contains 0.5 g of seed (about 5–10 seeds), made by Žalia stotelė.

Advice from our agronomist

Soak and sow warm. A soak of a couple of hours speeds up germination. In April sow singly in pots and keep at about +25 °C until they emerge.

Harden off first. A week before planting, put the young plants outdoors by day. Set them in a sunny spot at 100 × 50–70 cm and cover with fleece for the first weeks.

Limit the vines. Leave two or three fruits per plant and pinch out the shoot tips so that energy goes into the crop. The yellow melon is ripe when the tendril next to the fruit stalk dries up.
