Sowing Sow in March in pots 1 cm deep (18–20 °C); plant out in late May after the frost risk is over, 80–100 cm apart.
Care Needs sun, deep fertile soil and regular watering. In our climate it is mostly grown as an annual; it needs thick winter cover.
Harvest Cut the flower buds in August–September before the bracts open. Ornamental silvery foliage and a purple thistle-like bloom.
