About this product
China aster “Colour Carpet” (Callistephus chinensis) is a low, compact annual aster reaching only 25 cm. The small plants open large blooms 8-9 cm across that cover the bed like a dense carpet.
Flowering begins about 90 days after sowing. The variety suits annual beds, balcony boxes, pots and cemetery plantings. It does best in a sunny spot in fertile, free-draining, well-aerated soil. At +18 °C the seed germinates in 7-11 days; it can also be sown directly outdoors in October.

Advice from our agronomist
Sow in late March or April. Scatter the seed over light compost, cover thinly and keep at around +18 °C. When seedlings have two true leaves, prick them out into individual pots.
Plant out after the frosts. In late May or early June set the plants in a sunny bed about 20 cm apart. Avoid growing asters in the same spot every year, as this encourages disease.
Water at the base. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Remove faded blooms to keep the bed tidy.
