About this product

China aster “Duchesse Apricot” (Callistephus chinensis) is an annual cutting aster reaching up to 70 cm in flower. It belongs to the Duchesse group, known for sturdy stems and densely double flower heads; the name points to an apricot shade.

Asters flower in the second half of summer into autumn. The long stems are excellent for bouquets, and the plants suit a cutting patch or the back of a flower bed. The aster prefers a sunny spot and fertile, free-draining soil.

The pack contains 0.3 g of seed, made by AKONE.

Advice from our agronomist

Raise plants indoors. Sow in trays in March or April, cover with a thin layer of compost and keep at about +18-20 °C. After germination move seedlings somewhere cooler and brighter.

Plant out after the frosts. Set hardened-off plants into the bed in late May or early June, 25-30 cm apart. Choose a spot where asters have not grown in recent years to reduce the risk of fusarium wilt.

Stake and water. In windy gardens tie tall stems to a support. Water at the base in dry weather and cut blooms when they are almost fully open.
