About this product

China aster “Unicum” (Callistephus chinensis) is an annual cut flower growing 50-60 cm tall. Its large flower heads measure 8-10 cm across, and the plants cope well with cold autumn nights.

It starts flowering about 90 days after sowing. The variety suits bedding schemes and above all bouquets: cut stems last 10-12 days in water. It does best in a sunny spot with fertile, free-draining, well-aerated soil. At +18 °C the seed germinates in 7-11 days.

The pack contains 1 g of seed, made by Žalia stotelė.

Advice from our agronomist

Start under cover. Sow in late March or April into trays, cover with a thin layer of compost and keep at around +18 °C. Prick out the strongest seedlings into individual pots.

Plant out in late May. Move plants to the bed once night frosts are over, 25-30 cm apart. Avoid spots where asters grew the previous year, as this encourages disease.

Cut in the morning. Pick the flower heads when almost fully open and change the vase water every couple of days.
