Advice from our agronomist
When to sow. Sow for seedlings from late February to mid-March at 0.5–1 cm depth and 25–28 °C; germination takes 1–2 weeks.
Planting. Prick out seedlings at 2 true leaves into separate pots. Plant into the greenhouse in late May, or outdoors (in a warm spot) in early June, 40 × 60 cm apart.
Care. Water with warm water at the roots; for attractive, large fruits, leave 3–4 strong stems on the plant and prune the weaker ones. The plant likes moisture.
Feeding and harvest. Feed every 2–3 weeks with a potassium-rich fertiliser. Pick fruits from August to September while the skin is still glossy – overripe fruits turn bitter.
