About this product

African marigold “Kilimanjaro” (Tagetes erecta) is an annual that grows 45 cm tall and bears large flower heads 8 cm across.

It grows and flowers well in both sun and partial shade and is not fussy about soil, though it performs best in fertile loam. Use it in window boxes, beds, cemetery plantings and pots. The plants contain phytoalexins, so neighbouring plants suffer less from pests and diseases. Deadhead spent blooms to extend the display.

The pack contains 0.2 g of seed, made by Žalia stotelė.

Advice from our agronomist

Sow in March or April. Tall marigolds need a longer season than dwarf kinds, so sow in trays 0.5-1 cm deep and keep at +20-22 °C; seedlings appear in about a week.

Plant out in late May. Once frosts are over, set plants 30-35 cm apart, slightly deeper than in their pots for a stronger root system.

Deadhead faded heads. Regular tidying keeps plants neat and encourages new buds. In dry spells water at the base, not over the flowers.
