About this product

Butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii) is a perennial flowering shrub growing 1-2 m tall, attractive for both its foliage and its flowers. The lilac-like panicles carry a honey scent and draw butterflies into the garden in great numbers.

The shrub flowers from its second year, from July into autumn. It works as a specimen plant or in borders. It needs fertile, slightly acidic soil and a bright position sheltered from wind. Winter protection is recommended. The colour mix gives shrubs with flowers in different shades.

The pack contains 0.1 g of very fine seed, made by Žalia stotelė.

Advice from our agronomist

Sow on the surface. The seed is dust-fine, about 30,000 to the gram. Mix it with sand, scatter over moist compost in March, leave uncovered and keep warm and bright under film.

Grow on in a nursery bed. Plant young plants into a nursery bed in May or June and move them to their final position only in the second or third year, once the roots are strong.

Protect in winter. In late autumn mound mulch or peat around the base and cover with spruce branches. In spring cut back frost-damaged shoots, as flowers form on new growth.
