About this product

Sweet William “Pink Beauty” (Dianthus barbatus) is a pink-flowered perennial grown as a biennial. The bright blooms stand out against dark foliage, the dense flower heads reach about 10 cm across, and flowering is generous and long-lasting.

Sow outdoors in May-June; seedlings appear in 8-10 days, and plants flower the following summer from June to August. Sweet William is undemanding about light, frost-hardy and needs no winter cover. It does best in fertile, humus-rich soil. Use it in borders, containers and cut-flower bouquets.

The pack contains 1 g of seed (about 900 seeds), made by Žalia stotelė.

Advice from our agronomist

Sow into loose, moist soil. In May-June sow on a prepared nursery bed about 0.5 cm deep and keep the soil evenly moist until germination. Thin or prick out crowded seedlings.

Move to flowering positions in late summer. In August plant the young plants 30 x 40 cm apart in the border so they root well before winter. No winter protection is needed.

Remove faded flower heads. The following summer cut off spent heads to prolong flowering. For bouquets, cut the stems when roughly half of the flowers have opened.
