White mustard 200 g

About this product
White mustard (Sinapis alba) is the fastest green manure: it germinates at just +2 °C and produces lush green growth in 6-8 weeks. That is why it still has time to grow even if the bed only becomes free in August.
Mustard does several jobs at once. Its dense growth smothers weeds, its long root loosens the soil and brings nutrients up from deeper down, and its root exudates reduce soil-borne pathogens — among other things it helps against potato scab and wireworm. Flowering mustard is also a good bee plant.
The pack contains 200 g. Sowing rate about 200-300 g/100 m².

Advice from our agronomist
Cut before flowering. At the bud stage the growth is soft and rots down fast; after flowering the stem turns woody and seed has time to shed.
Do not sow before brassicas. Mustard is a brassica itself, so ahead of cabbage, radish or turnip it only builds up shared diseases.
Leave it on the surface. An autumn sowing need not be dug in: the cut growth covers the soil over winter and works its way in by spring.
