Advice from our agronomist
When to sow Sow directly in the bed from April to August, 1 cm deep, rows 30 cm apart. Seeds germinate in 4–7 days.
Sowing Thin the plants to 15–20 cm apart. Choose a sunny or semi-shaded spot. The variety’s dark burgundy leaves also suit flower beds.
Care Water regularly so the leaves stay tender. In heat and long days the plant tends to bolt.
Feeding and harvest Feed once with nitrogen. Cut the young leaves 3–4 weeks after sowing. In flower the plant grows up to 1.5 m with yellow blossoms; the pods are suitable for seed and for making mustard.
