About this product
Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) is a fast green manure with a special talent for making phosphorus available: its roots release acids that free up phosphorus locked in the soil in a form other plants can absorb.
Buckwheat grows even on poor and acidic soil, where other green manures refuse to thrive, and produces green growth in 6-7 weeks. It is not related to any vegetable, so it fits into any rotation. Flowering buckwheat is one of the best bee plants — the honey is dark with a strong flavour.
The pack contains 200 g.

Advice from our agronomist
Sow only in warmth. Buckwheat is frost-tender: a spring sowing before the last frosts is lost, so wait until early June.
Cut at the start of flowering. The growth is soft then; later the seed sheds and buckwheat returns as a weed next year.
Use it as a catch crop. Six weeks are enough to fit it between two crops — after early potatoes and before an autumn sowing, for instance.
