About this product

Potassium-magnesium fertiliser (potassium magnesium sulphate) is a fertiliser that combines potassium and magnesium and contains no nitrogen. This pairing is no accident: magnesium is the central atom of chlorophyll, without it a leaf cannot be green, and potassium helps the plant absorb magnesium.

Magnesium deficiency is common on sandy soils, where rain washes it down. You can recognise it on older leaves: the veins stay green while the leaf turns yellow between them. Potassium deficiency shows as browning leaf edges and poorly flavoured fruit. The fertiliser suits potatoes, root vegetables, soft fruit bushes and fruit trees, especially in the second half of summer when nitrogen should no longer be given.

The pack contains 1 kg.

Advice from our agronomist

Look at the older leaves. Magnesium shortage starts on the lower leaves: the plant moves magnesium from old leaves to young ones. Yellowing at the top means something else.

Right for later summer. Unlike a compound feed it carries no nitrogen, so given in late July it will not force new shoots.

Work it in and water. Spread it in the root zone, loosen it in and water — on dry soil it does nothing.
