Advice from our agronomist

When to sow Sow the seeds for seedlings in March–April on the soil surface (they need light), covered with only a thin layer of soil and keep at 18–22 °C. Seeds germinate in 2–3 weeks.

Planting out Plant the seedlings out in late May, 25–30 cm apart. Choose a sunny spot.

Care Water moderately, more in dry spells, and keep the bed weed-free. The plant likes warmth and is not reliable through our winters: grow it as an annual or protect it for the winter.

Feeding and flowering Feed moderately in spring and cut the dry foliage low; water in drought. Flowers with airy plumes in June–September; height 40–60 cm. Often an annual here; cover for winter.
