About this product

Coir pellet — a compressed growing block of coconut fibre for sowing seeds and rooting cuttings. Dry, it is a thin disc; placed in water it swells within a few minutes into a tall, moist cylinder ready for sowing.

The pellet’s biggest advantage shows at transplanting: the plant does not need to be pulled out but is planted together with the pellet, so the roots are not damaged. Coconut fibre holds moisture well yet lets air reach the roots and, unlike peat, takes up water again after drying out. A fine mesh around the pellet holds the block together.

The pack contains 12 pellets, 35 mm in diameter.

Advice from our agronomist

Soak before sowing. Set the pellets on a tray, hole upwards, and pour warm water over them; in 10-15 minutes they swell. Pour off any excess.

One or two seeds per pellet. Put the seed in the top hollow, cover lightly and keep the tray under a lid or film until germination.

Plant the whole pellet. Once roots show through the net, set the pellet whole into a pot or bed — the net does not hold the roots back.
