About this product

Lime wash for fruit tree trunks is a white paint for tree trunks that is not about looks but protection from the sun. The greatest danger to a fruit tree is not the January frost but the February and March sun: by day it warms the south side of the trunk, at night the temperature drops below zero again, and the bark splits under this sharp swing.

The white coat reflects the sunlight and keeps the trunk at a more even temperature. The paint also covers cracks in the bark where fungal spores and insects overwinter, and makes the trunk unappealing to hares and rodents.

The pack contains 500 g.

Advice from our agronomist

Paint in autumn. A spring whitewash looks tidy but is useless: the damage is already done. The right time is October to November, in dry weather.

Paint the trunk and the thick branches. Start at ground level and work up to the first main branches — their south side splits too.

Refresh in spring. Rain and snow wash part of the coat away: check at the end of February and add a second coat if needed.
