Advice from our agronomist
When to sow. Sow directly in the ground in late May – early June, once the soil has warmed to at least 10–12 °C; depth 4–5 cm. For an earlier crop, raise seedlings in pots in early May.
Sowing. Sow in a block (several rows) rather than a single row – corn is wind-pollinated. Spacing 60 × 30 cm; a warm, sunny, sheltered spot.
Care. Water generously, especially during flowering and cob growth; loosen the soil and earth up the plants. Remove side shoots only if necessary.
Feeding and harvest. Feed with nitrogen at the 5–6-leaf stage. Pick cobs at the milk stage (about 3 weeks after pollination, while the kernels are juicy) and use straight away – the fresher, the sweeter.
