Advice from our agronomist
When to sow Sow the seeds for seedlings in February–March on the soil surface, covered with only a thin layer of soil. Germination improves with 2–4 weeks of cold stratification in the fridge; germination temperature from +15 °C. Seeds germinate in 2–4 weeks.
Planting out Plant the seedlings out in late May, 30–40 cm apart. Lavender loves the sun; choose well-drained, slightly limy soil.
Care Water moderately; it does not tolerate standing water. Cut the plant back by about a third after flowering to keep growth compact.
Feeding and harvest No feeding is needed, or feed lightly in spring. Usually flowers in the second year from June to August; cut the flower spikes when half open and dry them. Cover with spruce branches in cold winters.
