Advice from our agronomist
Sowing Sow the seeds from April to May directly in the bed or in trays lightly covered with soil (0.5 cm). Keep the temperature at 15–20 °C; seedlings emerge in 7–14 days. The seed coat is hard, so soak the seeds for 12–24 hours before sowing. Prick out at 2–3 true leaves and plant out in May–June, 40–50 cm apart.
Care Keep the soil lightly moist and avoid waterlogging. Water in dry spells; remove spent spikes for a second flush.
Use Suits borders, cut flowers and green manure, enriching the soil with nitrogen. Usually flowers in the second year.
