Advice from our agronomist
When to sow Sow directly in the bed in April–May 1 cm deep, rows 40–50 cm apart. Seeds germinate in 1–2 weeks.
Sowing Thin the plants to 40–50 cm apart. Choose a sunny spot.
Care Water moderately, more in dry spells, and keep the bed weed-free. It self-seeds readily; remove flower heads before the seeds ripen if you do not want it to spread.
Feeding and flowering Feed 1–2 times with a flowering-plant fertiliser and remove faded flowers – this prolongs flowering. Flowers in June–September; height 100–120 cm. A biennial or short-lived perennial; self-seeds readily.
