Chalk for whitewashing and reducing soil acidity 200 g
Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Chalk — natural ground limestone with two uses in the garden: reducing soil acidity and whitewashing tree trunks.
In the soil chalk works more gently than quicklime: it dissolves slowly and over-liming is almost impossible, so it suits a small bed or a window box too. On the trunk the white coat does another job — it reflects the February and March sun, which would otherwise warm the south side of the trunk by day, only for it to freeze again at night and split the bark.
The pack contains 200 g.

Advice from our agronomist
Whitewash in autumn, not spring. Bark splits in late winter; whitewashing in April is already too late.
Do the thick branches too. The sun does not shine on the trunk alone: the south side of lower branches splits the same way.
Apply it to soil little by little. Chalk acts slowly — a little each autumn beats a lot at once.
