When to sow Sow directly in the bed in May 1 cm deep, rows 30–40 cm apart. Seeds germinate in 1–2 weeks.
Sowing Thin the plants to 25–30 cm apart. Choose a sunny or semi-shaded spot.
Care Water moderately, more in dry spells, and keep the bed weed-free. The milky sap irritates the skin – wear gloves. In milder zones (5–6) it may overwinter with protection or self-seed.
Feeding and flowering Feed 1–2 times with a flowering-plant fertiliser and remove faded flowers – this prolongs flowering. Flowers in July–September; height 60–80 cm.
