Advice from our agronomist
When to sow. Sow from late April to early June, once the soil has warmed to at least 5–8 °C; for an earlier crop, sow in late October before winter. Depth 1–2 cm, row spacing 20–25 cm.
Sowing. Thin the seedlings in two stages, finally leaving 3–5 cm between plants. Choose a sunny spot with light, stone-free soil; do not use fresh manure, as it makes roots fork.
Care. Water evenly – swings in moisture make roots crack; loosen between the rows and earth up exposed shoulders so they do not turn green. Fleece cover helps against carrot fly.
Feeding and harvest. Feed with a potassium-rich fertiliser and avoid excess nitrogen. Harvest in September – early October before hard frosts; store at 0–2 °C in damp sand or boxes.
