Common oats 200 g

About this product
Common oat (Avena sativa) is a cereal green manure that does most of its work underground. Its dense fibrous root system penetrates the topsoil and, once it decomposes, leaves behind a network of fine channels — which is exactly why compacted soil becomes able to breathe again.
Oats are not related to any vegetable, so they can precede almost any crop. They tolerate cool weather and keep growing in late autumn, when other green manures can no longer make it. Frost kills them off and they stay on the surface as a cover, so there is nothing to mow in spring.
The pack contains 200 g. Sowing rate about 1.5-2 kg/100 m².

Advice from our agronomist
Sow thickly. Oats work by bulk: a thin stand leaves room for weeds and builds few roots.
Good for a late sowing. If a bed frees up in September, oats are one of the few that still manage — they grow in the cool.
Mix with a legume. Oats fix no nitrogen themselves. Sow them with pea or vetch and you get both the roots and the nitrogen.
