Chinese cabbage “Bristol” (Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis) is a Chinese cabbage with an elongated, dense head: pale green leaves with wavy edges and a white, juicy, crunchy midrib. A head usually weighs 1-2 kg.
Chinese cabbage is fast: the crop is ready about two months after sowing. It is eaten fresh in salads as well as braised and fermented (kimchi). The flavour is milder and sweeter than white cabbage, without the typical cabbage sharpness.

Advice from our agronomist
Sow in the second half of summer. Long days and heat send Chinese cabbage to seed; a July-August sowing heads more reliably than a spring one.
Do not transplant. The root resents disturbance — sow straight into the bed or into coir pellets that are planted whole.
Protect from flea beetle. Young plants are chewed by flea beetles; cover the sowing with garden fleece for the first weeks.
