Advice from our agronomist
Sowing Sow the seeds from February to March in trays on the soil surface, uncovered, as the seeds germinate in light. Keep the temperature at 12–18 °C; seedlings emerge in 20–40 days. Cold stratification (2–4 weeks in the fridge) improves germination. Prick out at 2–3 true leaves and plant out in May–June, 25–30 cm apart.
Care Keep the soil lightly moist and avoid waterlogging. Tolerates drought, dislikes wet soil; do not move established plants.
Use Suits rock gardens and edging; flowers in April–May with dark red bells.
