Advice from our agronomist
When to sow Sow directly in the bed in April–May 1–2 cm deep, rows 40–50 cm apart. Seeds germinate in 1–2 weeks.
Sowing Thin the plants to 30–40 cm apart. Choose a sunny spot.
Care Water moderately, more in dry spells, and keep the bed weed-free. The leaves and flower heads have sharp spines – wear gloves when tending the plants.
Feeding and flowering Feed 1–2 times with a flowering-plant fertiliser and remove faded flowers – this prolongs flowering. Flowers in July–September; height 100–150 cm.
