Advice from our agronomist
When to sow Sow the seeds directly in the bed in April–May, 2 cm deep, rows 30–40 cm apart. Seeds germinate in 2–3 weeks.
Planting out Thin the plants to 15–20 cm apart and transplant them in autumn or the following spring to their permanent place, 80–100 cm apart. Choose a sunny or semi-shaded, fertile spot.
Care Water generously and mulch; remove the flower stalks so the plant does not waste energy on seed.
Feeding and harvest Feed in spring with compost or organic fertiliser. Do not cut in the first year – harvest the stalks from the second or third year, in spring and early summer.
