About this product

Stalk celery “Malachit” (Apium graveolens var. dulce) — a mid-early variety with thick, fleshy green stalks. The stalks reach 40-70 cm in length and are juicy and aromatic.

It takes 80-90 days from planting out to harvest. The very fine seed is sown indoors for transplants in February-March. Celery needs heavy, humus-rich, well-worked soil that does not stay waterlogged. The stalks are eaten raw, boiled or steamed.

The pack contains 0.2 g of seed (about 2000-2600 seeds per gram), made by Žalia stotelė.

Advice from our agronomist

Sow on the surface. Celery seed needs light to germinate and is slow, taking 2-3 weeks. Scatter it over moist compost, press lightly and keep covered at about 20 °C.

Plant out after the frosts. Move the young plants to the bed in late May or early June, once the risk of night frost has passed. A long cold spell can make celery bolt.

Water evenly. Stalk celery needs consistently moist soil all summer, as drought makes the stalks stringy. For paler, more tender stalks, earth up or wrap them in paper 2-3 weeks before harvest.
