Advice from our agronomist
When to sow Sow directly in the bed in autumn or spring 0.5–1 cm deep, rows 40–50 cm apart. Seeds germinate in 3–6 weeks.
Sowing Thin the plants to 40–50 cm apart. Choose a sunny spot.
Care Water moderately, more in dry spells, and keep the bed weed-free. The seeds need cold stratification and germinate slowly; the plant dislikes transplanting and waterlogging.
Feeding and flowering Feed 1–2 times with a flowering-plant fertiliser and remove faded flowers – this prolongs flowering. Flowers in July–August; height 90–100 cm. A short-lived perennial; self-seeds readily.
