Advice from our agronomist
Sowing Sow in late April to early May 2–3 cm deep in individual pots and keep at 20–25 °C; seedlings emerge in 5–7 days. Direct sowing outdoors is possible after the last frosts, in late May to early June.
Planting out Plant 3–4-week-old seedlings in a sunny spot in compost-rich soil once frosts have passed, 80–100 cm apart; give large cultivars more space.
Care Water generously and regularly at the root and feed every two weeks. Limit the number of fruits per plant for larger fruits and place a board or straw under them.
Harvest Harvest before the first hard frosts, when the rind is hard and the stalk has corked. Leave the stalk on and store in a cool, dry place.
