Advice from our agronomist
Sowing Sow from late May to early June directly in the bed 3–4 cm deep after the frost risk; plants 15–20 cm apart.
Planting Choose a sunny sheltered spot and set up supports (poles, netting) 2.5–3 m tall.
Care Water regularly, especially during flowering, and mulch. Pick pods often – the plant flowers and crops for longer.
Feeding and harvest Give little nitrogen; a phosphorus-potassium fertiliser suits. In autumn leave some pods to dry for seed.
