About this product
Tomatillo (Mexican husk tomato) Physalis philadelphica Tomatillo – a relative of the tomato whose fruits grow inside a papery husk.
The plant grows up to 1 m tall and is grown like a tomato. Fully ripe fruits are yellowish or purplish with a sweet-sharp fruity flavour and are used in salsa verde, sauces and stews.

Advice from our agronomist
Sowing Sow seeds from late March to early April in light compost about 0.5 cm deep and keep warm (22–25 °C); seedlings appear in 1–2 weeks.
Planting Plant out into the ground or a greenhouse after the last spring frosts in a sunny spot 50–60 cm apart. At least two plants ensure pollination.
Care Water regularly but avoid waterlogging; mulch the soil and support the branches, as a plant laden with fruit easily flops.
Feeding and harvest From flowering feed every 2–3 weeks with tomato fertiliser. Pick the fruits when they fill the husk and it starts to split.
