About this product

Scarlet sage “Scarlet Piccolo” (Salvia splendens) is a low plant reaching up to 30 cm in flower, grown as an annual. The name points to scarlet flowers, carried, as is typical of scarlet sage, in dense upright spikes.

It suits annual beds, large plantings, edging and balcony boxes. The seed germinates at +20-25 °C in 8-14 days, and plants go outdoors once the frosts are over. The best position is sunny, with fertile, loose soil.

The pack contains 0.15 g of seed, made by AGRONOM.

Advice from our agronomist

Sow in February or March. Scarlet sage grows slowly, so start early. Scatter the seed on moist compost, cover only thinly and keep at +20-25 °C.

Prick out and harden off. At the two-true-leaf stage move seedlings into individual pots. In late May acclimatise them to outdoor air and, after the frosts, plant 20-25 cm apart.

Water and deadhead. Keep the soil evenly moist and water generously in dry spells. Cut off faded spikes so new ones form and flowering continues into autumn.
