Lisianthus “Carmen Blue Rim” F1 (Eustoma grandiflorum) is an F1 hybrid whose petals, as the name suggests, are edged with a blue rim. Lisianthus is valued as a cut flower, its bell- or rose-shaped blooms staying fresh in the vase for a long time.
A biennial in the wild, it is grown here as an annual. Its slow development calls for very early sowing so that plants flower in the second half of summer. Choose a sunny, sheltered bed, a greenhouse or a large pot; a balcony works too.

Advice from our agronomist
Give the seed light. Lisianthus seed is dust-fine and germinates in light: from December to February scatter it on the compost surface, leave uncovered and keep under glass at about +20-22 °C.
Prick out gently. When seedlings have 2-3 pairs of leaves, move them with their root ball into individual pots; the delicate roots resent disturbance.
Plant after the frosts. In early June set plants 15-20 cm apart. Water evenly but never let the soil become waterlogged.
