Japanese maple Acer palmatum 'Beni-Maiko' – A compact, slow-growing Japanese maple: young leaves are bright red to orange, greenish with a red tinge in summer and deep crimson in autumn.
An elegant small tree for a specimen spot, a Japanese-style garden, a rock garden or a large container. It is more delicate in the Estonian climate: choose a sheltered, partly shaded spot and protect young plants in winter. Plant supplied in a pot. Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in spring in a sheltered, partly shaded spot with humus-rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Hot midday sun and cold wind scorch the leaves.
Care Keep the soil evenly moist but not wet; mulch with bark. In the first winters wrap the crown with fleece and cover the root zone; pruning is minimal, just remove dead wood.
Use As a specimen on the lawn, in a rock garden, by a terrace or in a large container; the foliage colours beautifully in autumn.
