About this product

Achillea millefolium "Pastel F2" (also sold as "Summer Pastels") is a mix of pastel shades of common yarrow: one planting gives pink, salmon, cream, yellow and lilac flower heads. Buy yarrow "Pastel F2" in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.

The flat flower heads sit on stems about 60 cm tall and bloom from June to September. The finely cut leaves are aromatic, and the plant spreads by underground runners.

It is a very hardy (zone 2) and drought-tolerant perennial for naturalistic borders and sunny banks, and for cut and dried flowers. The flowers attract butterflies and bees.

Advice from our agronomist

Planting. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil, 35–40 cm apart. Yarrow grows even in poor sandy soil but dislikes standing water.

Watering and feeding. Water for the first weeks after planting, later only in long droughts. No feeding is needed – rich soil makes the stems flop.

Care. Cut back the first flush after flowering for new blooms until autumn. The plant spreads, so divide clumps every 3–4 years in spring.

Gardener's tip. For cutting, pick heads when the flowers are fully open so they last in the vase; for drying, hang bunches upside down in the shade.
