Kiwi "Jenny"

About this product
Kiwi “Jenny” (Actinidia deliciosa) is a self-fertile variety that crops without a second pollinating plant. It is a vigorous climber, and its brown, fuzzy fruits are the familiar kiwifruit.
Kiwi loves warmth and is not reliably hardy in Estonia. Outdoors it needs a very sheltered, warm position and winter protection; a greenhouse is the safer choice. Fruit can be expected in years with a long, warm growing season.
Grow it against a greenhouse wall, on a warm south-facing terrace or over a pergola with sturdy support and shelter from wind. Its lush foliage casts pleasant shade in summer.

Advice from our agronomist
Put up support at once. Kiwi grows vigorously and needs a strong wire frame, pergola or trellis. Plant it by a warm wall where it is sheltered from the wind.
Protect it for winter. In autumn mulch the root zone generously and wrap the stems in fleece or spruce branches. Remove the cover gradually in spring, as late frosts can also damage young shoots.
Prune regularly. Without pruning the vine becomes congested and flowers poorly. Keep the soil evenly moist, especially in summer, but never let water stand around the roots.
