Garden pea "Meteor" is an early, round-seeded shelling pea (Pisum sativum). The seeds are from the Agronom brand (Agrofirma Sėklos, Lithuania), 10 g per packet. Buy "Meteor" pea seeds in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
It is a short, cold-tolerant pea that can be sown among the first crops, as soon as the soil has thawed and dried. The pods are even and filled with sweet green peas for eating fresh, freezing or preserving.
Peas grow in a sunny spot in loose, moderately fertile soil without standing water. As legumes they enrich the soil with nitrogen, so cabbage, cucumbers and potatoes do well after them.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Sow peas directly outdoors from late April to May, once the soil has dried. Seeds can be soaked overnight. Sow 4–5 cm deep, 5 cm apart in rows 20–25 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. Water moderately until flowering, then generously once a week while pods fill. Do not overfeed with nitrogen – peas fix their own; phosphorus and potassium when preparing the bed are enough.
Care. Hoe between rows and earth up the plants at 10–15 cm. A short pea does not strictly need support, but netting or twigs make picking easier and keep plants upright.
Gardener's tip. Pick pods every 2–3 days while the peas are tender and sweet – the more often you pick, the longer the plants crop. After harvest cut the tops and leave the roots in the soil as a natural fertiliser.
