About this product

French bean "Fruidor" (Phaseolus vulgaris) is a dwarf bush bean with golden-yellow pods 12–13 cm long: tender, stringless, parchment-free and snapping cleanly.

Plants stay around 45 cm and need no support. A yellow pod shows up from a distance against the green plant, so picking is easy and nothing is left to grow over unnoticed.

The packet holds 20 seeds. Good boiled, frozen or pickled — the colour stays bright after cooking. Produced by Baltic Agro.

Advice from our agronomist

When to sow. Beans are frost-tender: the soil must be at least +12 °C, so late May or early June. Sowing earlier gains nothing — the seed just rots.

Do not soak. A swollen seed splits in cool soil. Sow into a moist drill and keep off the watering can until the plants are up.

No nitrogen. Beans fix their own. An overfed plant runs to leaf and sets no pods. Give ash or potassium before sowing.

Watering. Sparing until flowering, even during flowering and pod fill. Water at the root — wet leaves bring disease.

Picking. Every 3–4 days, with both hands: hold the stem with one, snap the pod with the other. A yellow pod is easy to spot, so none get missed. Regular picking extends the crop by a month.

Watch out for. A cold wet June (resow), aphids on the shoot tips and anthracnose in a rainy summer. Do not walk among wet plants — the disease travels on clothes.
