About this product
Alpine aster (Aster alpinus) Mix is a low, compact perennial that blooms in summer with large daisy-like flowers in blue-violet, pink and white shades with yellow centres. "Mix" means the flower colour varies from plant to plant.
The plant grows 15–25 cm tall and forms a dense clump 30–40 cm wide. It flowers from June to July and suits rock gardens, borders and containers.
Alpine aster is very hardy and prefers a sunny position and well-drained, lime-rich soil. We sell it in a 9 cm pot; plant it out in spring or early autumn.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Choose a sunny, well-drained spot and add sand to heavy soil. Space plants 25–30 cm apart with the crown level with the soil and water well after planting.
Care. Remove faded flowers to extend blooming and keep the clump tidy. Weed regularly.
Watering and feeding. Water moderately in dry summers; the plant dislikes wet feet. Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertiliser or compost.
Winter and pruning. Cut back flower stalks after blooming. Divide every 3–4 years in spring to prevent thinning; winter protection is usually not needed.
