Alpine aster «Autumn Beauty» (Aster alpinus) is a low perennial, 25-30 cm tall. The flowers are 4-5 cm across with a yellow centre and cover the plant densely. It is a good nectar plant that brings bees and butterflies to the garden.
The plant is undemanding: it grows in sun or shade and is not fussy about soil, but it does not tolerate waterlogging. Suitable for containers, flower beds, rock gardens and cutting. It stays in one place for 3-4 years.

Advice from our agronomist
Sow in spring or summer. Raise seedlings in March-April or sow directly outdoors in May-June; cover the seed with only a thin layer of soil.
Keep it on the dry side. The aster hates standing water: choose a raised spot or mix sand and grit into the soil, especially in a rock garden.
Expect flowers in the second year. In the first year the plant builds a leaf rosette; divide the clump every 3-4 years to keep it flowering well.
