Sea thrift Armeria maritima, 12 cm pot
Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Sea thrift (Armeria maritima) is a low evergreen cushion-forming perennial; in spring and summer round heads of pink flowers rise above its narrow leaves. Buy sea thrift in a 12 cm pot in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
It grows to about 20 cm tall and forms a dense green tuft. Flower heads are up to 2.5 cm across and bloom from May to July, often repeating after deadheading.
In the wild the species grows on sea coasts, so it tolerates wind, drought and poor soil well. Very hardy (USDA 4) – for rock gardens, edging, path sides and containers.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in full sun in light, well-drained soil; add sand or grit to heavy clay. Space plants 20–25 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. Water only after planting and in long droughts – waterlogging is more dangerous to thrift than dryness. It needs little feeding: a little compost in spring.
Care. Deadhead spent flower heads to encourage repeat flowering. Every 3–4 years divide old clumps that go bare in the middle, in spring.
Gardener's tip. Thrift is one of the best plants for dry, sunny spots and coastal gardens – plant it between stones or in a balcony box with other drought-tolerant plants.
