About this product

Goat's beard (Aruncus dioicus) is a large, imposing perennial bearing tall creamy-white feathery plumes in midsummer. Buy goat's beard in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery — pot-grown plants.

A mature plant reaches up to 150 cm tall and about a metre wide. The large, pinnate leaves turn yellow in autumn. The species is dioecious — male and female flowers are on separate plants.

Ideal for the back of a border, as a specimen, by water and in part-shaded naturalistic gardens. A good choice for larger gardens needing a tall, easy perennial.

Advice from our agronomist

Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in part shade in moist, fertile soil. Leave room — a mature clump is about a metre wide.

Watering and feeding. Needs evenly moist soil; water generously in drought. Add compost or perennial fertiliser in spring.

Care. Cut the plumes after flowering or leave them for winter interest. Cut old stems to the ground in early spring. It needs no lifting and thrives in one place for years.

Winter. A very hardy perennial of European origin that needs no winter protection.
