Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or autumn in full sun in well-drained, fertile soil. Space plants 30–40 cm apart and plant at the same depth as in the pot.
Care. Care is easy: mulch keeps moisture in and suppresses weeds. Remove faded flowers to prolong blooming; taller cultivars may need support.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly in dry weather but avoid waterlogging. Feed with a balanced fertiliser or compost in spring; no feeding is needed in the second half of summer.
Winter and pruning. A hardy perennial: cut the stems back to 5–10 cm in autumn or early spring. Young plants can be covered with spruce branches the first winter.
