Astilbe (Astilbe) is one of the best perennials for shady, moist gardens: in summer fluffy plumes rise above its lacy leaves. Varieties are assorted – white, pink, red and purple. Buy astilbe in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
Depending on variety, astilbe grows 40–80 cm tall and flowers from June to August. The dried plumes stay decorative into winter.
Astilbes are very hardy (USDA 4–8) and suit the Estonian climate well. Good for part-shade borders, pond sides, under trees and in large containers.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in part shade in humus-rich, moist soil. Space plants 40–50 cm apart and keep the crown at soil level.
Watering and feeding. Astilbe needs consistently moist soil – water once or twice a week in dry summers and mulch. Give a balanced fertiliser or compost in spring.
Care. Dried plumes can be left for winter and cut back in spring. Divide clumps every 4–5 years in spring, as the rootstock rises above the soil.
Gardener's tip. The sunnier the spot, the more water astilbe needs. Plant several varieties as a group – the flowering lasts longer and the colours blend beautifully.
