About this product
Aubrieta "Leichtlinii" (Aubrieta × cultorum) is an evergreen, mat-forming perennial that flowers profusely in spring with carmine-pink blooms. This low aubrieta suits rock gardens, retaining-wall edges, gravel beds and gaps between stones.
The plant grows 10–15 cm tall and forms a cushion 30–50 cm wide. It usually blooms from April to June, attracting bees and butterflies, and the foliage stays green through winter.
Aubrieta prefers a sunny position and well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. We sell it in a 9 cm pot; plant it out in spring or early autumn.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Choose a sunny, dry, well-drained spot; improve heavy clay with sand or grit. Space plants 25–30 cm apart with the crown level with the soil.
Care. After flowering cut the plant back by one-third to one-half to keep the cushion dense and boost next year's bloom. Remove weeds before they root into the mat.
Watering and feeding. Water new plants in dry spells; established aubrieta is drought tolerant. Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertiliser, as too much nitrogen reduces flowering.
Winter and pruning. It usually overwinters well, but winter wet is more harmful than cold. Cover with spruce branches if needed and divide old cushions in spring or autumn.
