Rex begonia 'Conga' (Begonia rex) is a striking houseplant grown for its foliage: large, asymmetric, velvety leaves in deep burgundy and metallic violet with silvery and dark green accents. Buy rex begonia 'Conga' in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The variety is compact, about 15–30 cm tall. The small pinkish flowers appear only occasionally — the real feature is the foliage, which stays decorative all year round.
Ideal for a windowsill, shelf or indoor arrangement in a bright spot out of direct sun. The plant is not frost hardy: grow it indoors only, at no less than 15 °C.

Planting. Repot in spring into a pot 1–2 cm wider, using light, open compost over a drainage layer. Rex begonias prefer wide, shallow pots.
Watering and feeding. Water moderately once the top 1–2 cm of compost is dry and never leave water standing in the saucer. From spring to autumn feed every 2–3 weeks with a foliage houseplant fertiliser.
Care. Keep in a bright place out of direct sun and away from radiators. The plant likes humid air, but do not mist the leaves — stand the pot on a tray of damp pebbles instead. Remove old leaves.
Gardener's tip. Turn the pot once a week for even growth and water less in winter — this keeps the leaves of begonia 'Conga' bright and healthy.
