Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in spring or autumn in sun to part shade in fertile, moderately moist soil; it also copes with heavy clay. Space plants 50–60 cm apart.
Watering Water regularly in the first year, later in dry spells; an established plant is fairly drought tolerant.
Pruning Cut the grass back to 10–15 cm in late February to March before new growth starts; leave the plumes standing for winter.
Feeding and winter care Feed in spring with compost or a slow-release fertiliser; more is not needed, as too much nitrogen makes stems flop. Hardy; remove old dry foliage in spring.
