Tietoa tuotteesta
Feather reed grass (Calamagrostis × acutiflora) is one of the most beautiful and reliable ornamental grasses: strictly upright clumps and narrow plumes give the garden rhythm and movement from spring until the next spring. The variety of this plant is not specified; the most common garden form is tall and upright. Buy Calamagrostis in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The grass starts growing early and forms a clump of leaves 60–90 cm tall, topped in June–July by plumes 120–160 cm tall. Purplish-brown at first, the plumes turn golden over summer and stay upright even under snow in winter – the plant looks good all year round.
Feather reed grass is very hardy (USDA zone 4, to about –34 °C). It is a sterile hybrid that does not self-seed or spread, so the clump stays neatly in place. It grows in sun in almost any soil, including clay. Ideal for groups, informal hedges, border backdrops and large containers.

Agronomin neuvot
Planting. Plant from spring to September in a sunny spot, 50–60 cm apart; 40 cm for a hedge. Plant at the same depth as in the pot and water well.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly in the first summer; an established plant tolerates short droughts but looks best in evenly moist soil. In spring give a handful of compost or general fertiliser – grasses need little feeding.
Care. Leave the dry stems and plumes over winter – they look lovely in snow and protect the crown. In early spring, before new growth starts, cut the whole clump back to 10–15 cm. Every 4–5 years an old clump can be divided in spring.
Gardener's tip. Plant feather reed grass in groups of 3–5 or in a row – the rhythm of the upright plumes then really stands out. Great companions are coneflowers, sedums and asters.
